I put streaks of white in my bag by putting the white strips aside and linking them in bunches while raveling the yarn.
This bag has a round bottom. When crocheting circles, the size is dependent on the amount of increase rows you use. Your first increase row is to put two stitches in every 1 stitch of the previous row; next row is one stitch in one stitch, two stitches in the next, one in the next, etc. After that you do two singles then a double and so on. So although I made my bag a certain size, you can easily alter this. Just keep in mind that if you make the bottom very big, you’re going to end up with a bucket-esque bag that would probably require some type of closing flap to avoid looking awkward. I used sc to make this bag but if I did it again I’d do it with hdc because it was awfully tedious using such a short stitch! Lastly, I used a size M hook but most patterns I’ve seen use an N, P, or Q hook. Since this yarn doesn’t have much “give”, use whatever hook size is easiest for you to work with. These projects can be hard on the hands in general (and esp hard on my thumb, dunno why) so do whatever you need to do to get comfy. R 1: Ch 4, close circle with slip st. Ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), 11 more hdc in ring. Close round with sl st into first hdc. [12 hdc] R 2: Ch 2, one hdc in same st as ch 2, two hdc in each hdc around. Close round with sl st into [24 hdc] R 3: Ch 2, one hdc in same st as ch 2, one hdc in next st, two in next, till end of round. Complete round by sl st into first hdc. R 4-5: Ch 2, one hdc in each st around, ending with a sl st into first hdc. R 6: Ch 2, *one hdc in next two st, two hdc in next hdc*, repeat to end of round, completing round by sl st into first hdc. R 7-8: Ch 2, one hdc in each st around, close round with sl st into first hdc. R 9: Ch 2, *one hdc in next three st, two hdc in next hdc*, repeat to end of round, join with sl st. Mark this join somehow (like with a little scrap of yarn or a safety pin). R 10-26: Ch 2, one hdc in each hdc around. No need to join rounds here, you can keep tabs on which row you’re on by looking back at your marker. These rows are the main body of the bag and you can make as many or as few as your aesthetic taste dictates. To give the bag some shape, throw some decreases in the last few rows. To do this, put a few hdc tog stitches in each row. Handles and finishing: Count the amount of stitches you have on the last row of the bag. Divide this by four, and write the number down. For this pattern we’ll call it X. First handle: Ch 50, hdc in 3rd ch from end and hdc in each ch across (48 hdc). After last hdc, attach to bag with a sl st. Sc around top of bag for X stitches, then join other end of strap to bag with two sl sts. Second handle: Sc X more times. Ch 50, hdc in 3rd ch from end and hdc in each ch across (48 hdc). After last hdc, attach to bag with a sl st. Sc around top of bag for X stitches, then join other end of strap to bag with two sl sts. Make a bean bag pouf, hats, and tails to match for a raucous playtime adventure! The bean bag and hats are crocheted from the top down with all of the features crocheted separately and sewn on. The bean bag cozy is a tight fit at first but will relax as the bean bag is used.
